People would ask me, "Aren't you afraid to travel across the country in an RV?"
I would say, "No, I'm not. I'm not afraid at all." BUT I did have one fear....the fear that I would not be able to BACK UP the camper.
During a fasting/prayer week for my trip, I was praying about that. I was saying to God that I don't think I can do this trip because I'm never going to be able to back up! So during that week, I was trying to sell this lovely shade pop up that I had bought off of Craig's List to use for my birthday.
Yes, I did complain to the guy who sold it to me, and he sent me $25 back in the mail.
Yes, I did sell it on Craigs List to Jeremiah who said he could fix it, for $45.
Yes, it did end up costing me $10.
No, it's not pretty, but it did serve its purpose.
Anyway, during that week of prayer, I sold this to Jeremiah. Well, I'll have you know that Jeremiah just happened to be a big rig truck driver, so when I told him about my trip and how I was afraid of backing up, he said, "Well, I just happen to be a big rig truck driver, and I can give you all kinds of tips," which he did! And he said, "I can tell you that there will ALWAYS be someone to help!"
God sent me a truck driver (angel #1) to give me some backing tips AND buy my beat up shade thing. Great deal!
So after an evening in the Costco parking lot with my VERY patient husband (angel #2) TRYING to teach me how to back up, and, me, a crying, cursing, "I'll never be able to do this!" student, I set out to travel 8,000 miles hoping to NEVER have to back up because that's a really good idea! Drive 8,000 miles in a camper that you don't know how to back up. DO NOT try this yourselves!
Enter my first back up SITUATION! I'm in Mesa, AZ, visiting Saige. I get to the RV park. A guy directs me to my spot. I ask if he'll help me try to back up. He says yes. I ATTEMPT to back up just once, and he says, "Ummmm, maybe we should go get some help." :(
We go to the clubhouse. They call George. They tell me George can't get in my truck and back it up, BUT he can DIRECT me.
OH NO!
So I get in George's golf cart, and we ride to my truck & trailer. George leans over to me and says, "Do you want me to back it up for you?" I almost squeal with delight!
"Oh, yes, please, George. That would be great!"
Here's George backing up my trailer.
Yay God! Yay George!
Here's George, the angel
It gets better.....The next day, I'm working (doing our bookkeeping) in our camper. George knocks on the door. Now, I didn't tell him anything about my trip. I know it's hard to believe, but I didn't. And he gave me this:
He said, "Lory, I know you're on some kind of spiritual JOURNEY, and I found this in the street and thought I'd give it to you."
I'm just standing there speechless (I know...hard to believe). I can't believe that God sends me George to back up my trailer AND give me a cross AND say the word JOURNEY to me. That's just crazy amazing!
Hopefully, I'll get better at backing, BUT I do think there may have to be some more back up angels along the way!
Too funny that was my first thought...."does Lory know howbto back that thing." loving watching your Journey! Xo
